Harrison Hall of Natural Science
The Ecology Lab showcases South Carolina habitats from the mountains to the sea. Murals, faux rock work, and live animals and plants have created “Living Habitats.” Four large aquaria showcase these habitats: a Mountain Trout Stream, a Beaver/Turtle Pond, a Cypress Swamp (with alligator), and a Salt Marsh. In addition, a large terrarium of carnivorous plants highlights our Carolina Bay habitat.
Other displays include a Backyard Habitat and a large Forest Mural with a live honeybee hive. This lab also houses an Invertebrate Zoo displaying native and tropical invertebrates and a monarch butterfly life cycle mural. Search all the colorful murals for “hidden” animals, too. Come and discover the special habitats of South Carolina.
